GRIZ CHEER GIVES BACK

Since the opening of Grassfield High School in 2007, one of the foundations of the Griz Cheer Program has been giving back to the community.  The Grassfield varsity cheerleaders have done this in a variety of ways including:

  • Volunteering at the Rock and Roll Half Marathon 
  • Volunteering at Project Mud to benefit CHKD
  • Grizzly Youth Cheer Camps
  • Blankets for Babies to benefit CHKD
  • Flip-A-Thon to benefit RMHC and CHKD

BLANKETS FOR BABIES

Griz Cheer's Blankets for Babies is an annual holiday event that began in 2012.  The varsity cheerleaders along with parent volunteers make hand-made blankets to donate to The Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters over the winter holidays.  To date, Grassfield Cheer has donated over 500 hand-made blankets.

GRIZ Cheer Flip-A-Thon

To date, the Grassfield Varsity Cheerleading Team has raised over $53,500 to donate to local charities and the Megan Curry Memorial Scholarship Fund.  In 2014, the Grassfield Cheer Flip-A-Thon originated.  In the first Flip-A-Thon the cheerleaders and coaches raised $10,000 to donate to The Ronald McDonald House of Durham in the name of Megan Curry, Grassfield Varsity Cheerleader.  In the 2015, Grassfield Varsity along with the help of Hickory Varsity raised $15,000.  $7,500 was donated to Ronald McDonald House of Durham and $7,500 was donated to Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters.  In 2016, the Grassfield cheerleaders raised $10,600.  $7,500 was donated to Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters and $3,100 was donated to Ronald McDonald House of Durham. In 2017, the Grassfield cheerleaders raised $10,000.  $7,500 was donated to Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters and $1,000 was donated to Ronald McDonald House of Durham and $1500 was donated to the Megan Curry Memorial Scholarship Fund. In 2018, the Grassfield cheerleaders raised $8,000.  $5,000 was donated to Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters and $500 was donated to Ronald McDonald House of Durham and $2500 was donated to the Megan Curry Memorial Scholarship Fund.
